With the purpose of improving the care situation of women in Europe suffering from the effects of violence encountered, NGOs from EU member states have joined in this network.
Domestic violence, sexualised violence, rape and abuse: violence against women includes many facets. Such violence can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms are complex, and often misjudged in diagnosis, so that the connection between the disorder and violence is not recognised. Experiences made by NGOs show that this is quite simply due to a lack of knowledge all over Europe, across all professional groups, and even among the persons affected themselves.
The network's objectives are
Network members have joined with the intention to intensify cooperation between psychotraumatology, general medicine, social services, police and the advice centres specialising in gender-related violence.
The Network is closely linked to the European women's organisations combatting violence against women, and collaborates intensively with WAVE - Women Against Violence Europe.
